Coronation Street star Shelley King has revealed she is undergoing tests for autism.

The actress, who plays Yasmeen Nazir on the ITV soap, revealed to The Mirror that she decided to be tested after noticing some of her own traits and characteristics.

“I’ve always had a temper, I’m very pedantic and I like to plan things. Simple things that people take for granted have not been easy for me,” she said, before adding that she was becoming “unreasonable about things” and getting “anxious” when in crowds.

The actress continued by mentioning that the tests had helped her overcome any fears and worries, adding that her age didn’t faze her.

“I don’t think 67 is too old, it’s never too late,” she said. “It’s been a great outpouring and it’s making me less scared of my life and that I’m not doing things right,” she said, before explaining her autism may have led her to take up acting.

“I always wanted to perform... if I sing, it makes me feel better. Most actors are damaged in some way. They go into acting to fill a big hole in themselves or become somebody else.”

King has played Yasmeen for the last nine years on Corrie, with recent developments on the soap seeing Daniel Osbourne’s and Daisy Midgeley’s relationship coming under strain.

Daisy has been spending more time with Ryan Connor following his horrific acid attack, and actor Rob Mallard revealed that Daniel would begin to get jealous at their closeness.

“He feels very confident and comfortable in his relationship and Daisy does make him feel secure in the relationship,” he said. “But at the same time he knows that Ryan and Daisy were once an item, albeit briefly, and so there is always that worry that she might think that the grass is greener and jump ship.”

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
