Coronation Street star Todd Boyce reveals why Stephen Reid could be killed off

Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street star Todd Boyce has teased an unorthodox theory as to why his character Stephen Reid could be killed off.

The businessman has shown his dark side in recent months, committing several murders as he seeks to further his own career and cover up previous crimes.

Boyce spoke about Stephen's deadly exploits in an interview with Inside Soap, and joked that an on-set superstition could point to the character's demise.

"I share a dressing room with Dan Brocklebank [who plays Billy Mayhew], who is just so much fun and so wonderful," began Boyce. "[He] tells me that everyone who's sat in my chair, their character has died.

"So it's a bit of a haunted chair. Dan has been in the show for 10 years, so that's a bit scary!" he added.

Boyce also expressed his long-lasting love for the ITV soap, saying: "I feel exhilarated more than exhausted, because it's just been so much fun," he said. "I love Corrie so much – I'm such a huge fan.

"I grew up in Australia and it was always on – it was really popular when I was a teenager there.

"I knew the characters, the cobbles, the world. I moved to the UK in 1989 – since I was cast [as Stephen] in 1996, I've only ever missed an episode when I've been travelling. It's just a world that I love, and I pinch myself every day that I drive through the gates."

Upcoming developments will see Stephen struggle to keep his composure at the memorial of Rufus Donahue, his third victim.

A twist in the tale sees the killer realise his own tie pin was found at the scene of the murder, with Rufus' widow Lou beginning to suspect him.

“He’s absolutely hating himself for wearing that pin,” said Boyce. "He's kicking himself. It feels as though the walls are closing in now, and he's thinking, 'Oh, God, no!'

"He's been able to convince himself that he'll never have to murder again, but he's in denial."

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
