Coronation Street's Adam Barlow lies to Sarah in split aftermath

Adam Barlow has told a cruel lie to estranged wife Sarah Barlow in Coronation Street.

The couple made the heartbreaking decision to end their marriage last week, after Adam admitted he couldn't cope with the fact that romantic rival Damon Hay was the father of Sarah's late child.

His behavior has caused trouble between the Platts and Barlows, as Gail was not at all happy with Adam's attempts to begin divorce proceedings so soon after Sarah lost her and Damon's child.

In Monday's (August 9) episode, Adam acted out once again by trying to make Sarah feel the same way he had when he learned she'd cheated with Damon.

He turned up on the cobbles looking dissheveled from the night before, where he implied that he'd slept with another woman. Sarah was understandably hurt by Adam moving on so quickly, but tried to keep her head up.

While Adam initially bluffed to Daniel Osborne that this other woman had kept him up all night long, he eventually confessed that it was all a facade.

Adam admitted he'd not actually gone out with another woman at all, he simply wanted to hurt Sarah by making her believe he'd done it.

At Daniel's urging, Adam eventually tried to clear things up by confessing to Sarah that he'd not actually been with another woman the previous night.

Sarah cut short his explanation, insisting he no longer had to justify his personal decisions to her since they were getting divorced.

With both sides now feeling the same kind of betrayal, is there any hope for Adam and Sarah?

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
