Coronation Street's Carla discovers Stephen's drugging plan

Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street's Carla Barlow is left horrified next week, as she realises that someone was secretly drugging her earlier this year.

Carla reaches the alarming conclusion after a heart-to-heart with Rufus Donahue's widow Lou.

Viewers know that Stephen Reid spiked Carla's drinks with LSD over a period of weeks, as he wanted to steal her position in charge of the factory.

Stephen's scheme was successful when Carla feared that her psychosis had returned and she stood down from Underworld to recover.

Next week, Carla chats to Lou and is surprised when Lou confides in her about Rufus dabbling with LSD before he died.

Lou describes the symptoms that Rufus experienced and Carla is shocked by how similar they sound to her own ordeal.

Carla decides to confide in her friend Roy Cropper, explaining how her symptoms were identical and she now suspects someone was drugging her with LSD.

Roy refuses to believe this and worries that Carla is becoming paranoid again.

Taking no chances, Roy warns Carla's husband Peter that her mental health may have become a cause for concern again. How will Peter respond? Plus, will anyone realise that Stephen was the one targeting Carla?

Carla's concerns come as Corrie builds up to some dramatic episodes later this year, as Stephen's lies and deception continue to unravel.

Jack P Shepherd, who plays Stephen's nephew David Platt, recently confirmed his character's involvement in the upcoming scenes.

Jack exclusively told Digital Spy: "Things are getting on top of [Stephen] and people are starting to find out.

"And I think I'm heavily involved in it, although I haven't read it yet! People have said I am. People have said I'm in it, so that's always nice.

"I'm interested to know how it ends. It'll be sad if Uncle Stephen does have to leave permanently, because it's always a shame when you lose a Platt – someone close to your family.

"Hopefully he just gets arrested or something, but I don't know, because he has done a lot of bad stuff and he's killed people!"
