Coronation Street's Chris Gascoyne lands new role away from soap

Coronation Street actor Chris Gascoyne is heading to the world of panto this Christmas.

Best known for his 23 years playing Peter Barlow on the cobbles, the star will play Captain Hook in The All New Adventures of Peter Pan.

This production runs from Friday, December 8 until Sunday, December 31 at The Alban Arena in St Albans.

"EXCITING PANTO NEWS," read The Alban Arena's official announcement on Instagram.

"The Alban Arena are delighted to announce Coronation Street legend Chris Gascoyne will star as Captain Hook in The All New Adventures of Peter Pan this pantomime season! Chris Gascoyne is famous for his role as Peter Barlow in Britain's top soap Coronation Street in which he has led numerous high-profile storylines to great acclaim.

"This promises to be our most spectacular pantomime yet with stunning sets, dazzling costumes, and a star-studded cast. This is a must-see show for the whole family.

"Don't miss your chance to experience the wonder and excitement of Neverland once more in Paul Hendy's pantomime sequel!"

Gascoyne's casting follows Jude Law's portrayal as the iconic villain in Disney+'s recent film Peter Pan & Wendy, which was directed by The Green Knight's David Lowery.

Peter Barlow will make a return to the cobbles in Monday's episode (July 10) after an absence of three months.

Viewers will see the character becoming involved in Daisy Midgeley and Ryan Connor's storyline.

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
