Coronation Street's Ciarán Griffiths on if he'd move to Neighbours

Coronation Street actor Ciarán Griffiths's character Damon Hay is part of some big storylines right now, including having an affair with married Sarah Barlow.

But the actor is currently on the cobbles for a good time not a long time, as he doesn't actually live in Manchester – his home is in Australia.

Not only that, he recently starred in the thriller Riptide, which was created by the Neighbours production company (Fremantle Australia), partly filmed in the studio used by the Aussie soap and broadcast on Channel 5. Now Neighbours is coming back on Amazon Freevee, could Ciarán start popping up on Ramsay Street?

"Yeah, if it meant I could have regular work near my family, then absolutely," he told Inside Soap magazine. "Melbourne is a great city. I'd want to play something completely different to anything I've done before, so maybe some old washed-up, Meth-head surfer. I'd get to be out in the sun!"

Comparing filming TV out in Australia to filming in the UK, Ciarán said: "They're a lot more laid-back in Australia. The pace is a bit slower — but the weather's better!

"When I'm here freezing on the cobbles and they say they're taking your coat as we're going for a take and you have to act warm, it's hard! I did a job in Melbourne last January [their summer]; it was scorching. I can't handle the cold now."

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
