Coronation Street's Henry sparks a big announcement over the Rovers Return

Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street's Henry Newton has ensured that the Rovers Return is safe after striking a last-minute deal with landlady Jenny Connor.

Henry reassured the Weatherfield locals in Friday's episode (August 11) amid recent fears that the legendary pub could close its doors for good.

Jenny recently admitted that she was struggling to make the pub profitable after months of secret financial struggles.

Her last hope was local brewery Newton & Ridley buying the pub, but the business initially refused as The Rovers was unlikely to deliver a return on investment.

However, in the show's latest episode, Gemma Winter-Brown stepped in and convinced brewery heir Henry to change his mind.

Henry had indicated that he was willing to save the pub if Gemma would agree to work as his PA.

When Gemma eventually decided to accept the job offer, a delighted Henry called at The Rovers and confirmed that the deal was back on.

After Jenny talked through the finer details and was satisfied by the expected terms, she happily took her place behind the bar and announced that The Rovers would be staying open.

She told the punters: "I just wanted to make an announcement, and that is that – very shortly – Newton & Ridley are going to be the official owners of the Rovers Return."

When Glenda Shuttleworth questioned if that meant everybody's jobs were safe, Henry replied: "Absolutely. Please, join us in a celebratory drink on the house."

Although everyone else was pleased, Gemma struggled to mask her anxiety over working so closely with Henry and how her jealous husband Chesney would cope.

Back at Number 5, Gemma broke the news of her new job to Chesney and was relieved when he agreed to be supportive. However, with Chesney clearly hesitant, has Gemma made an agreement that she'll live to regret?

And, with Corrie star Sally Ann Matthews recently promoting Jenny's pub woes as the start of a big storyline, has the Rovers landlady really reached the end of her troubles?
