Coronation Street's Katie McGlynn posts tribute to Sinead on anniversary

Former Coronation Street star Katie McGlynn has celebrated her character Sinead Osbourne four years after her death.

McGlynn last appeared on the ITV soap in 2019 when Sinead died of cervical cancer. On the anniversary of her character's passing yesterday (October 25), the soap star took to Instagram to pay tribute to Sinead and remind people with a cervix to go for their smear test appointments.

"I can't quite believe it's been four years since we said goodbye to Sinead Tinker (maiden name)… a character I'll always cherish playing!" McGlynn wrote in the caption.

"As you all know, Sinead died from cervical cancer… so please, don't forget to go for your smears, it could quite literally save your life," she continued, adding she's had "the best memories with the most incredible team" on Corrie.

McGlynn also posted a follow-up message to her fans on her Instagram Stories to thank viewers who've shared their personal stories with her.

"Waking up this morning with tears in my eyes reading all of your comments and messages letting me know that Sinead's cervical cancer storyline saved your lives…" the actress wrote.

"More than anything I wanted my final storyline on Corrie to mean something and to make a difference, and the fact so many women are letting me know they might not be here today if it wasn't for that storyline means more to me than words can ever express."

In 2019, Sinead passed away, survived by her husband Daniel, played by Rob Mallard, and their son Bertie.

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
