Coronation Street's Maria stands up to Councillor Cameron after Griff incident

Coronation Street's Maria Connor stands up to her political rival Len Cameron during a television appearance next week.
Maria is appalled when corrupt councillor Len decides to use the recent Weatherfield Peace Market incident to pursue his own agenda.
Viewers know that Len was the secret financial backer who was supporting far-right extremist Griff Reynolds and his gang over the past few months.
Griff recently went further without Len's knowledge, planting a bomb in the Speed Daal van at the Peace Market. Tragedy was only avoided thanks to Alya Nazir driving the vehicle off to some waste ground to ensure that nobody was hurt.

In next week's episodes, Maria decides to re-open the Peace Market to show that the community is united against Griff.
Maria's attempts to bring everyone together are immediately undermined by Len, who tells her that he has organised a TV interview to talk about the attack.
Len's intentions become clear when he manipulates the situation in the interview, telling the TV reporter that policies welcoming refugees are not working.
Maria is disgusted and interrupts Len, telling the reporter that she strongly disagrees with his views.

Maria adds that the community has never been more united, despite Griff's attempts to cause hatred and division. Will Len back down – and will his secret links to Griff ever be exposed?
Corrie bosses recently announced plans to redeem Max Turner after the teenager was recruited by Griff. Max raised the alarm about the bomb after realising what Griff was planning.
Show producer Iain MacLeod told Digital Spy and other media: "Max will, over the course of 2023, realise the error of his ways. A lot of what we're doing after that is about him being deprogrammed and un-brainwashed.
"There is a redemption on the horizon for him after what he's been through, but the after-effects – like with all stories – last for a very long time after that."
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
