Coronation Street's Peter Ash talks Paul and Billy's skinny dipping scene

Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street star Peter Ash has looked back on a memorable scene where his character Paul Foreman went skinny-dipping with partner Billy Mayhew.

Ash and co-star Daniel Brocklebank went for a dip in front of the cameras as part of a long-term storyline involving Paul's Motor Neurone Disease (MND) diagnosis.

In the powerful scenes from last month, Paul suggested the couple go skinny-dipping at the lake like they'd seen in a "posh film" — but the flirty scene turned into a deeply poignant moment.

As the two lovers held one another in the water, Paul asked Billy if they could finally book their wedding, and they shared a passionate kiss.

Chatting to Digital Spy and other media, Peter Ash reflected on filming the scene: "The stuff at the lake — the skinny dipping, that was a great fun day. We were out for the whole day really! We filmed near Knowsley."

He went on: "It was a beautiful day. The water was great. It got a bit cold towards the end. I started shivering a bit towards the end.

"But yeah, the response was amazing. I mean, the response since the beginning from people has just been overwhelming, honestly. The way people have responded to Paul's story, it's been something really special, and we're all very happy and thank everyone for the positive feedback."

Peter went on to clarify that, despite the potentially racy nature of the scene, he and co-star Daniel Brocklebank were actually wearing some clothing.

"Flesh-coloured short pants basically, that was it," he said. "All the crew were in the wetsuits and everything in the boat.

"Yeah, it was all real. No messing about, but yeah, it was lovely. It just got a little bit cold towards the end."

The soap couple are headed down the aisle next week, with Coronation Street recently unveiling the first official look at their wedding ceremony.

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
