Roy Cropper's health worries are set to take a serious turn as he is rushed to hospital in new scenes on Coronation Street.

Recent scenes have seen Evelyn Plummer worry for Roy's health, especially after feeling unwell as he clutched his chest during a salsa lesson.

Roy later attended an appointment with Dr Gaddas, explaining that he had been suffering from chest pains and breathlessness, before she told him she would arrange some tests.

However, when Evelyn learned of Roy's health worries, she insisted on accompanying him to the hospital.

In new scenes set to air on the soap, Evelyn offers to accompany Roy on a walk with Freddie when Nina admits to her that Roy is nervous about taking the dog out.

Together, Roy and Evelyn take the pooch for a walk, though Roy begins to suffer from terrible chest pains again. This spurs Evelyn on to urge him to follow up with the heart specialist.

Later on in the week, Roy takes Freddie through the precinct, though the dog sees a cat and decides to give chase. However, Roy is brought up short by his chest pains, leading Evelyn to call an ambulance.

Meanwhile, Evelyn actress Maureen Lipman spoke recently about whether things between her character and Roy could turn romantic, saying: "I don't think Evelyn has the hots for Roy, or him for her. It's lukewarm at best and I don't think she's going to get her vest off. But there are many forms of love – they're lonely people. She had the chance for romance with Arthur and sort of blew it. I think the stable door is shut and the horse has bolted.

"She does want to spend time with him [as] Roy understands about grieving. He gets where she's coming from – [it] doesn't take much to bring her round because she knows where her bread's best buttered."

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
