Coronation Street's Ryan Connor diagnosed with sepsis after hospital dash

Ryan Connor has been diagnosed with sepsis following a hospital dash in Coronation Street.
The soap has started a new issue-based storyline for Ryan Prescott's character to put a spotlight on the condition that kills approximately 50,000 Britons every year.
In Friday's (May 12) episode, Ryan Connor continued to feel listless. He was only put through more stress when he revealed to Daisy that he'd overheard her previous conversation with Daniel about Crystal.

Daisy noticed that Ryan looked like he wasn't feeling well, and she was proved right as he had to rush off to the loo to be sick. A concerned Daisy shared her worries with Jenny that Ryan might not realise there's an underlying health issue.
At the same time, Ryan continued to be consumed with thoughts about Ibiza DJ Crystal and left her a voicemail as he lost consciousness.
Once Daniel and Daisy listened to the alarming message, Daisy rushed over to the Street Cars flat to bang on the door. Eventually, Daisy and Debbie let themselves in and found Ryan unconscious.
EMS workers soon turned up to rush Ryan to the hospital, where Daisy, Debbie and Daniel would find out that he has been diagnosed with sepsis.
In light of Ryan's health concerns, Daisy finally had to confess to Daniel that she's been masquerading as Crystal in hopes of raising Ryan's spirits.
Meanwhile, in his hospital bed, Ryan left "Crystal" a heartfelt voice note to declare his love for her. Daisy later retrieved the message and was left concerned over the harm she'd done by posing as the DJ.
Friday's episode was produced in collaboration with UK Sepsis Trust and its founder, Dr Ron Daniels, to reflect the real dangers that sepsis poses across the country every day.
The condition is essentially the immune system's overreaction to injury or infection. In Ryan's case, it's related to the wounds he suffered in the recent acid attack at the pub.
According to the UK Sepsis Trust, five people die from sepsis every hour of the day in the UK. The condition also has a personal connection to actor Ryan Prescott.
"My dad had sepsis a while ago and my sister just recently had sepsis. It is a silent killer, and I hope this storyline continues to encourage conversations and plays its part in helping to improve awareness and potentially prevent unnecessary deaths," the actor revealed.
Dr Ron Daniels added: "Anything that can be done to raise the profile of this all too often 'silent killer' is to be welcomed — it will undoubtedly empower others to act quickly and save the lives of loved ones.
"I am delighted that Coronation Street has gone to such lengths to ensure the story line holds true to reality — I'm sure it will help spread the word and make people more aware that it’s a medical emergency that needs treating fast. Time is of the essence."
