Coronation Street's Samuel Robertson on Adam and Harvey's big new story

Coronation Street star Samuel Robertson has weighed in on how Adam Barlow's revenge plan against Damon Hay may backfire.

Earlier this year, Damon returned to the cobbles determined to win back Adam's estranged wife Sarah after their affair, with a furious Adam resorting to desperate measures to get rid of him. The solicitor contacted Damon's half-brother Harvey Gaskell, currently serving time in prison for the murder of Natasha Blakeman.

As both characters hold a grudge against Damon, the baddie's days may be numbered, but will Adam go through with his plan?

"He's 100% serious about getting rid of Damon, he's all in now and he seems unrepentant," Robertson said. "He's not having any doubts about what he's doing, he has worries about certain elements of the ruse, but his fundamental aim remains resolute, he wants rid of Damon ASAP."

Adam is "gutted" that Damon's return has ruined his chances to get back together with Sarah and be a family with Harry.

"Yeah it's definitely what he wanted, he never stopped loving Sarah, he still loves her now despite everything that she's put him through," Robertson added. "I think he's upset about Harry, but it's not just Harry, it's Sarah as well. Adam really has it in for Damon, especially after being tied up and almost shot, then there's also all the past problems they've had.

"He really hates the guy with an absolute passion so for him to saunter back in and take over his life, Adam's just lost all sense of reason and he's willing to do whatever it takes to get rid of him."

Working with Harvey, however, proves dangerous for Adam, who soon realises he's not in charge of the ruse.

"I think the more he gets to know [Harvey] the more he's becoming aware and he's getting a little trepidatious about being in so deep, but he's started the ball rolling now so he's either all in or he's in trouble," the actor said.

"Maybe he didn't realise at the beginning, but he realises now how dangerous Harvey is for sure. Harvey's a lot smarter than [Adam] gave him credit for, although he's a villain and he's from a rough background, he's not stupid," Robertson continued.

"Adam realises quite quickly that he's been played a little bit by Harvey but he's in too deep now, he's going to have to go with what Harvey says and roll with the punches. Adam's definitely not dictating things now, that's for sure."

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
