Coronation Street's Stephen sparks major Rovers Return changes

Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street villain Stephen Reid starts meddling at the Rovers Return next week after Jenny Connor complains of financial problems.

Having already caused chaos at Underworld in recent months, Stephen decides to share his advice with Jenny on how to get her failing business back on track.

In next week's scenes, Jenny initially confides in her boyfriend Owen about how the pub is struggling financially.

Owen bleakly suggests that Jenny should cut her losses and sell up, but she refuses to even consider this as an option.

Stephen soon wades in with his own views, suggesting a sneaky alternative to price rises. He puts forward the idea of reducing portion sizes to increase the profit margins on sales for each meal.

Jenny takes the idea on board, but her and Glenda Shuttleworth brace themselves for a backlash when Ed Bailey and Gary Windass tuck into their smaller hot pots.

Later in the week, Stephen suggests that increasing bar prices might be the best idea after all.

Jenny announces that she's proceeding with this plan, as well as increasing her charges for room rental.

The pub staff are stunned as Jenny reveals that she's cutting their shifts, while the punters complain about the price hikes.

Sean Tully helps out Jenny by handing out flyers to promote a darts night, hoping that this will boost business.

Jenny is disappointed when nobody turns up – and the reason becomes clear when she finds Gary, George Shuttleworth, Kirk Sutherland and Sean all drinking beers and playing darts at a rival event in Ed's back yard.

As Jenny starts to lose hope for the pub, she confides in Daisy Midgeley about how they're only weeks away from closing for good unless things improve soon.
