Coronation Street's Toyah confronts Rowan over sinister cult

Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street's Toyah Battersby clashes with newcomer Rowan Cunliffe next week as she grows suspicious over his intentions.

Toyah worries when she sees her sister Leanne and nephew Simon both getting drawn in by The Institute – spurred on by charming mentor Rowan.

Simon became involved in the self-help group after being sentenced to community service following his drink-drive crash, which left him searching for a new direction in life.

Leanne's own interest was piqued when Rowan approached her during an event at the Chariot Square Hotel and encouraged her to confide in him.

Next week, Toyah finds Leanne watching a motivational video hosted by Rowan.

Leanne warmly praises Rowan's teachings, but Toyah becomes sceptical over his motives.

Later in the week, Leanne closes her eyes and experiments with a so-called "reality coding" technique which Rowan has taught her.

Leanne explains to her partner Nick Tilsley that the practice helps her to eliminate the unexpected.

Debbie Webster tells Toyah that Rowan is leaving for a trip to the US and she'll be glad to see him go, as his constant talk of "reality coding" is irritating her at the Chariot Square Hotel.

Later, Toyah decides to tackle the situation head-on as she visits the hotel and questions Rowan about his work with The Institute.

Rowan defends his belief in "reality coding", but Toyah explains that she's a trained counsellor and believes his teachings are harmful.

Toyah then goes straight to Nick and warns that Rowan is a fraud. She makes it clear that they need to convince Leanne to ditch Rowan before she's persuaded to hand over all her money to The Institute. Will Nick share Toyah's concerns?

Emrhys Cooper, who plays Rowan, recently told Digital Spy: "I would love to tell you [about how much danger Leanne is in], but I honestly don't know yet, and I'm dying to find out.

"Toyah is suspicious but Rowan isn't fazed by Toyah's reaction, he's used to it. He wholeheartedly believes in the cause and isn't thrown easily."
