Corrie previews sad struggle for Gemma ahead of Christmas

Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street will air an emotional struggle for Gemma Winter-Brown in upcoming scenes, as the festive season continues with Gemma still separated from her family.

As Christmas rapidly approaches, Gemma's access to her stepson Joseph and her quadruplets remains restricted, after Gemma accidentally poisoned Joseph by mistakenly giving him lavender oil.

With Gemma now staying with her brother Paul Foreman and his husband Billy Mayhew at their flat, she is feeling the strain of being away from her children so close to Christmas.

Next week, things get even worse for Gemma when she and Paul head over to No.5 for a visit and Paul's wheelchair breaks down on the street.

When Gemma and Paul finally arrive at the Christmas concert at Victoria Garden, they're gutted to find that they've missed it after their delay.

Fortunately, after some persuasion from Glenda Shuttleworth, Joseph agrees to give an encore for Gemma.

Later on, her husband Chesney Brown calls at the flower shop flat for Joseph and the quads. Gemma is left feeling sad, wishing that the kids could stay longer and hating being separated from her family in the build-up to Christmas.

Gemma's separation from her kids isn't the only upset that the family will face over Christmas, with Paul also facing the prospect of this Christmas being his last as his Motor Neurone Disease progresses. Meanwhile, the twins' mum, Bernie Winter, is due to be spending the festive period in prison.

There could be even more trouble on the horizon in the new year, too, with Joseph's grandmother, Linda Hancock, due to make a return.

"Joseph's fairy godmother turns up in the shape of Linda," Coronation Street producer Iain MacLeod told Digital Spy and other media. "She decides that she's going to fix all this and starts throwing money at the situation, which puts Chesney and Gemma in this impossible quandary – in that by accepting financial help from Linda, they're giving up control of Joseph's life."

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
