COVID-19: Singapore confirms 13 new cases including 9 imported, total at 200
SINGAPORE — The Ministry of Health (MOH) on Friday (13 March) confirmed 13 new cases of the novel coronavirus in Singapore – the joint highest on a single day – bringing the total to 200.
Of these, nine are imported cases while one is linked to a 15 February private dinner function at SAFRA Jurong – the largest cluster here with 44 cases. Two others are linked to previous cases while one has no established link to date.
The single-day high of 13 cases was likewise confirmed on 6 March.
Separately, one more case – a 43-year-old male Singapore permanent resident who had been in Malaysia from 18 to 21 February – was discharged from the hospital on Friday, said the MOH.
This brings the total of those who have recovered and have been discharged to 97, almost half of 200 confirmed cases. 11 remain in critical condition in the intensive care unit, up from nine on Thursday.
The ministry added that contact tracing is underway for 10 locally transmitted cases – out of over 140 – with no established links to previous cases or travel history to affected countries or regions. A total of 56 cases are imported.
Case 188: Singaporean who was in Thailand (likely imported)
The 53-year-old Singaporean man had been in Thailand from 23 February to 1 March. He reported developing symptoms on 7 March and had sought treatment at two general practitioner clinics on 7 and 9 March.
He visited the Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH) on Thursday and tested positive for the virus on the same afternoon. He is currently warded in an isolation room at the KTPH.
Prior to his hospital admission, the Yishun Street 51 resident had run errands at Northpoint City at 30 Yishun Avenue 2 as well as 743 Yishun Avenue 5.
Case 189: Indian national who was in home country (likely imported)
The 36-year-old male Indian national, who holds a Singapore work pass, had been in India from 21 February to 1 March.
He reported developing symptoms on 11 March and had sought treatment at a general practitioner clinic on Thursday, and was referred to the National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID) on the same day.
He tested positive for the virus on the same afternoon and is currently warded in an isolation room at the NCID.
Prior to his hospital admission, the St George’s Road resident had gone to work at Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation at 3 Temasek Avenue.
Case 191: Malaysian woman who was in Germany, home country (likely imported)
The 24-year-old Malaysian woman, who holds a Singapore work pass, had been in Germany from 24 to 28 February, and Malaysia from 28 February to 3 March. She tested positive for the virus on Friday morning and is currently warded at the NCID.
Case 192: American man who arrived in S’pore from home country (imported)
The 32-year-old American man arrived in Singapore on Tuesday from the United States. He tested positive for the virus on Friday morning and is currently warded at the NCID.
Cases 193 & 194: Malaysian man, Chinese woman who were in Germany, Czech Republic, Austria, Hungary (both imported)
Case 193 is a 26-year-old Malaysian man who holds a Singapore work pass and had been in Germany from 1 to 3 March, the Czech Republic from 4 to 6 March, Austria from 7 to 8 March, and Hungary from 9 to 10 March.
He is linked to case 194, a 24-year-old female Chinese national, a Singapore work pass holder, who also visited the same countries at the same time.
The man tested positive for the virus on Friday morning, while the woman tested positive for it in the afternoon. The duo is currently warded in isolation rooms at the NCID.
Case 195: Singaporean man who was in US, Canada (imported)
The 47-year-old Singaporean man had been in the United States from 4 to 17 February, and Canada from 17 February to 9 March.
He tested positive for the virus on Friday morning and is currently warded in an isolation room at the NCID.
Cases 197 & 199: Singaporean men who attended mass religious gathering in Malaysia (both imported)
Case 197 is a 30-year-old Singaporean man who had been in Malaysia from 28 February to 2 March, while case 199 is a 37-year-old Singaporean man who had been in the same country from 26 February to 2 March.
The duo is linked to the mass religious gathering at the Seri Petaling Mosque on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur which involved around 10,000 people from several countries.
They are among four Singaporean COVID-19 cases to date to be linked to the meeting.
Both tested positive for the virus on Friday morning and are currently warded in isolation rooms at the NCID.
Case 196: 73-year-old Singaporean woman linked to SAFRA Jurong dinner function
The 73-year-old had no recent travel history to affected countries and regions. She is a contact of cases 107 and 148, both Singaporean women, aged 68 and 67, respectively.
She tested positive for the virus on Friday morning and is currently warded in an isolation room at the NCID.
The woman is the 44th case linked to the SAFRA Jurong dinner function, the largest cluster to date in Singapore.
Case 190: 53-year-old Singaporean man linked to Filipino woman
The 53-year-old Singaporean man had no recent travel history to affected countries and regions. He tested positive for the virus on Friday morning and is currently warded at the NCID.
The 42-year-old Filipino woman (case 172) has no established link. She holds a Singapore work pass and had been in her home country from 27 February to 2 March.
She tested positive for the virus on Wednesday morning and is currently warded in an isolation room at the NCID.
Case 200: Family member of Singaporean who was in France
The 62-year-old Singaporean woman had no recent travel history to affected countries and regions. She tested positive for the virus on Wednesday morning and is currently warded in an isolation room at the NCID.
She is a family member of case 165, a 30-year-old Singaporean man who had been in France from 15 February to 7 March and tested positive for the virus on Tuesday.
Case 198: 61-year-old Singaporean woman with no links
The 61-year-old Singaporean woman had no recent travel history to affected countries and regions. She tested positive for the virus on Wednesday morning and is currently warded in an isolation room at the NCID.
Updates on cases 180-187
The ministry provided further details on eight of nine cases announced on Thursday. Case 180 is a 71-year-old Singaporean man who had been in the United States from 27 February to 10 March.
He reported developing symptoms on Tuesday and had sought treatment at a general practitioner clinic the next day and was referred to Tan Tock Seng Hospital on the same day.
Prior to hospital admission, he mostly stayed at his home at Bishan Street 23.
Case 181 is an 83-year-old Indonesian man who had arrived in Singapore on Monday. He is currently warded at Gleneagles Hospital and a family member of case 182, a 76-year-old Indonesian woman who is also warded at the same hospital.
She had also arrived in Singapore on Monday.
He reported developing symptoms on 8 March while in his home country, and had visited the emergency department of Gleneagles Hospital two days later.
The woman had reported developing symptoms on Monday after her arrival in Singapore, and had visited the emergency department of Gleneagles Hospital on the same day as the 83-year-old man.
Prior to their hospital admission, the duo stayed at Bukit Timah Road.
Case 183 is a 29-year-old Singaporean man who had been in Malaysia from 29 February to 4 March, one of four Singaporean COVID-19 cases to date linked to a mass religious gathering at a mosque in Kuala Lumpur.
The mosque worker reported developing symptoms on 6 March and had sought treatment at a general practitioner clinic three days later. The Bukit Panjang Ring Road resident visited the NCID on Wednesday.
Prior to his hospital admission, he had gone to work at Masjid Al-Muttaqin at 5140 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 6, and visited three other mosques: Masjid Al-Iman at 10 Bukit Panjang Ring Road, Masjid Kassim at 450 Changi Road, and Masjid Hajjah Fatimah at 4001 Beach Road as well as the Singapore Islamic Scholars & Religious Teachers Association, or Pergas, at 448 Changi Road.
Case 184 is a 35-year-old Filipino man, who holds a Singapore work pass and had been in the Philippines from 24 February to 1 March
He reported developing symptoms on 10 March and stays at Lorong 28 Geylang.
Case 185 is a 34-year-old Singaporean man who had been in Malaysia from 22 to 23 February. He reported developing symptoms on 7 March and had sought treatment at a general practitioner clinic on Monday. Prior to his hospital admission, he mostly stayed at home at Circuit Road.
Case 186 is a 64-year-old Singaporean man with no recent travel history to affected countries and regions.
He reported developing symptoms on 5 March and had sought treatment at a general practitioner clinic on the same day, and the emergency department at KTPH on 10 March.
Prior to his hospital admission, the Woodlands Street 13 resident had gone to work at Samwoh Corporation at 25E Sungei Kadut Street 1.
Case 187 is a 48-year-old Singaporean man who had been in Malaysia from 28 February to 2 March and one of four Singaporean COVID-19 cases to date linked to a mass religious gathering at a mosque in Kuala Lumpur.
He reported developing symptoms on 4 March and had sought treatment at a general practitioner clinic on the same day, and on 6, 9, 10 and 11 March. He visited at the NCID on 11 March.
Prior to hospital admission, the Whampoa Drive resident had visited Masjid Hajjah Rahimabi Kebun Limau at 76 Kim Keat Road.
Most remaining patients stable; 1,491 currently quarantined
Most of the 103 remaining patients in the hospital are stable or improving, while 11 are in the intensive care unit, said the MOH.
As of 13 Friday noon, the ministry has identified 4,910 close contacts who have been quarantined. Of these, 1,491 are currently quarantined, and 3,419 have completed their quarantine.
The MOH reiterated its advice for Singaporeans defer all travel to Hubei province and all non-essential travel to mainland China, France, Germany, Iran, Italy, Japan, South Korea and Spain.
