Cowboy Bebop creator unveils first trailer for new anime series
Adult Swim has unveiled the first trailer for the new anime series from Cowboy Bebop creator Shinichiro Watanabe.
Appearing at the Adult Swim 'Toonami on the Green' panel at the 2023 San Diego Comic Con, Watanabe unveiled the trailer for his new series Lazarus.
Debuting the new original anime for Toonami on Saturday (July 22), Watanabe appeared at the event to showcase character designs as well as imageboard art for the new project which is aiming for release in 2024.

Appearing at the event, senior vice president and head of anime and action series at Adult Swim Jason DeMarco said that Watanabe is on board to direct each episode of Lazarus.
While Cowboy Bebop creator Watanabe is set to helm each episode of the sci-fi anime series as director, John Wick stuntman Chad Stahelski is on board to design the action sequences.
Boasting a host of musicians, DJs as well as producers, Lazarus will feature a score from Floating Points, Bonobo and jazz saxophonist Kamasi Washington.
The synopsis reads: "The year is 2052 – an era of unprecedented peace and prosperity prevails across the globe. The reason for this: mankind has been freed from sickness and pain. Nobel Prize winning neuroscientist Dr. Skinner has developed a miracle cure-all drug with no apparent drawbacks called Hapuna. Hapuna soon becomes ubiquitous… and essential. However, soon after Hapuna is officially introduced, Dr. Skinner vanishes.

"Three years later, the world has moved on. But Dr. Skinner has returned – this time, as a harbinger of doom. Skinner announces that Hapuna has a short half-life. Everyone who has taken it will die approximately three years later. Death is coming for this sinful world – and coming soon.
"As a response to this threat, a special task force of 5 agents is gathered from across the world to save humanity from Skinner's plan. This group is called "Lazarus." Can they find Skinner and develop a vaccine before time runs out?
