‘Coyote Vs. Acme’: Lord & Miller, Paul Scheer Catch Early Screening: “Best Version Of The Looney Tunes On The Big Screen”

Some have already seen a screening of the Warner Bros’ quashed live-action hybrid animated movie Coyote vs. Acme, and they’re giving it a big endorsement on social.

As we reported, the new Warner Bros motion picture administration of Michael De Luca, Pam Abdy and animation head Bill Damaschke axed the film for a $30 million tax writedown. Now the movie is being shopped with Apple, Amazon and Netflix taking interest. We hear that some of those streamers are catching the movie in the near future.

We also hear that screening, which took place Tuesday afternoon, drew a huge applause at the end, and had wall-to-wall laughs with the likes of The Nun II director Michael Chaves in attendance along with Oscar-winning Everything Everywhere All at Once filmmaker Daniel Scheinert, in addition to the pic’s cast of Will Forte, Lana Condor and P.J. Byrne and Coyote vs. Acme director Dave Green.

Said Lego Movie co-director and Spider-verse producer Christopher Miller, “I saw COYOTE VS ACME and it’s delightful. Funny, charming, good physical comedy timing, with a surprising amount of heart. I hope several studios go after it so the world can see all the good work people did.”

Eric Bauza, who does the voiceover in the movie credited as Wile E. Coyote, posted a photo:

On Tuesday, Texas Rep. Joaquin Castro took to Twitter to slam Warner Bros Discovery over killing Coyote vs. Acme. “The @WBD tactic of scrapping fully made films for tax breaks is predatory and anti-competitive,” wrote Castro, who has protested WBD before on antitrust issues.

“As the Justice Department and @FTC revise their antitrust guidelines they should review this conduct,” he continued.

“As someone remarked, it’s like burning down a building for the insurance money,” he added.

Coyote vs. Acme previously had the theatrical release date of July 21, 2023; that prized launchpad eventually went to Barbie, a date change was announced in April 2022 at CinemaCon.
