Cristiano Ronaldo sends message to Kylian Mbappe over Real Madrid move after throwback photo post

Cristiano Ronaldo believes Kylian Mbappe will “light up” the Bernabeu after his move to Real Madrid.

Mbappe on Monday completed his free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain to Los Blancos, and Real legend Ronaldo wished the Frenchman well on social media.

Al Nassr striker Ronaldo, who produced 581 goal contributions in 438 games for Real between 2009 and 2018, wrote on Instagram: “My turn to [watch]. Excited to see you light up the Bernabeu.”

Mbappe has penned a five-year deal, including a reported £85million signing-on bonus.

He will join the newly-crowned Champions League winners on July 1 when his PSG deal expires.

He has been given the No9 shirt and will lead the line for Real next season, flanked by Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo and playing just ahead of England star Jude Bellingham.

In a post announcing his move, Mbappe wrote: “A dream come true. So happy and proud to join the club of my dream. Nobody can understand how excited I am right now.

“Can’t wait to see you, Madridistas, and thanks for your unbelievable support. Hala Madrid!”

Mbappe, whose new annual salary could be worth up to £17m, scored 256 goals in 308 games for PSG, joining them in 2018 from Ligue 1 rivals Monaco.

The 25-year-old is gearing up to captain France at Euro 2024.

It is understood that he also wanted to represent France at the Paris Olympics. But he was left out of yesterday’s provisional squad, with manager Thierry Henry saying: “Clubs have the power to say yes or no.”
