Culvert damaged in winter storms to be replaced

A damaged brick culvert in Lincolnshire is getting an extensive rebuild.

The structure in Fulletby Road in Low Toynton, Horncastle, will be “fully removed and replaced with a specialist pipe encased in concrete”, Lincolnshire County Council has confirmed.

Works are expected to last five weeks beginning in August and the road will be closed until the work is complete.

Richard Fenwick, head of highways service at the authority, said the road around the tunnel will be “excavated to its entire width and it will later be reinstated after the new culvert is built”.

Works are due to begin on Monday 5 August until Friday 6 September from 07:30 to 16:00 BST, Monday to Friday.

A diversion route will be signposted around: Fulletby Road, Fulletby, Hemingby Lane, Louth Road (A153) and Low Toynton Road.

Mr Fenwick added: “Because of the nature of the job, a full road closure using like-for-like roads will be necessary to ensure the safety of the work crew and road users.

“These works, which will take £50,000 to deliver, will repair the damage caused by last winter’s storms and will ensure that this culvert will be in full working order again.

“I’d like to thank everyone effected by this work for their patience and understanding while we get on with this rebuild.”
