The bond between Daisy Edgar-Jones and Paul Mescal is a forever one.

Fans of the Normal People costars have grown to adore their friendship. Between their recent reunions at Glastonbury Festival and for a charity event tied to the 2020 limited series, fans are finding themselves wanting more from two the actors.

According to Edgar-Jones, that seems pretty likely, as she told Variety of the actor, "Paul is one of my lifetime best friends."

"He’s an incredibly grounded person and I am too, I think, so it’s nice to be able to have those touchstones and those people you can laugh about it with and be lighthearted with," she continued. "We met when I was 20 and Paul was 22; I’m so excited to see where we’ll be at 32, 42, and what life will bring us."

The 26-year-old, who will star next in the Twisters sequel alongside Glen Powell, met Mescal while making Normal People. She told the outlet how meaningful the series' lasting effect is to them both.

Sharing that the series, based on the popular Sally Rooney novel, is what she was "recognized for the most" at Glastonbury, she said, "Usually people just say, 'It meant so much to me.'"

"The thing I love people saying the most is, 'It made me contact my ex.' Especially when much older people say, 'I just wanted to reach out to the person I was with when I was 17 just to say you were a big part of my history and thanks for being part of who I am, the tapestry of my life,'" Edgar-Jones shared. "And that I really love, because I’m a massive romantic."

Mescal, 28, starred as popular rugby player Connell in the series. He strikes up a surprising romance with quiet, sheltered Marianne (Edgar-Jones), which they keep under wraps during the years-long relationship.

When the show premiered, in all its steaminess, Mescal told PEOPLE that while he was "anxious" in anticipation of filming intimate scenes, things actually went over quite well.

“There’s an awkward 10 minutes when you’re like, okay, I have to be relatively naked in front of a group of strangers," he said. "From an actor’s perspective, you’ve got to treat that the same way you would a scene where you’re speaking to each other."

Edgar-Jones, meanwhile, said that she was proud of the duo's performances. "If you’re trying to tell the truth about a relationship, you have to also include the truth of what that means in terms of intimacy."
