Daniel O'Donnell wants cameo in Coronation Street

Singer Daniel O'Donnell has revealed that, while he considers himself very lucky to have had the music career he's had, he would love a surprise cameo on Coronation Street.

The Irish singer has enjoyed longevity in the music industry since first becoming successful in the 1980s. However, in a new interview with Sunday Life (via Belfast Telegraph), O'Donnell said he would love to try his hand at soap opera acting in Coronation Street.

"Going on Coronation Street is a pipe dream now. I would take a cameo. I’ve always watched Coronation Street. It would be my favourite soap on TV."

I’ve met Charlie Lawson (Jim McDonald), I’ve met a few of the Coronation Street stars and I went a couple of times to the set in Manchester," O'Donnell said.

"The old set was right there in the centre and I was there a couple of times. I would take any role — as a singer or a cameo, it doesn’t really matter to me.”

While O'Donnell has yet to fulfill that dream, he did appear in the 2015 edition of Strictly Come Dancing alongside professional partner Kristina Rihanoff. The duo were eliminated in week four. However, while he enjoyed that stint, there are some shows he would not be interested in — like I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here.

“They asked years ago, but that’s not something I would want to do. I wouldn’t be able for it. I’ve done Strictly, but I wouldn’t do I’m A Celebrity.”

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
