'Daredevil: Born Again' — everything we know so far about this Marvel show
The rumors were indeed true. Charlie Cox is set to return to the small screen as Daredevil, which was announced at 2022’s San Diego Comic-Con. We last saw him in his own Netflix series that first aired in 2015 and continued for three seasons. Now, Disney Plus is bringing him back for another series.
“Daredevil: Born Again” will see the titular character back in action as he fights crime in Hell’s Kitchen. However, it seems as though this series will actually tie into the MCU, whereas it didn’t before. It’s time to celebrate now, though, as “Daredevil” has officially entered the cinematic universe.
Cox also confirmed that production on the show has already wrapped, so it won’t be long until we see the badass hero on our screens again.
'Daredevil: Born Again' release date confirmed
“Daredevil: Born Again” was expected to be on our screens by now with 18 episodes streaming on Disney Plus. However, the show was pushed back due to the writers and actors strike. “Captain America: Brave New World” and “Blade” have also had their dates changed.
For comparison’s sake, the original live-action “Daredevil” series on Netflix ran for three seasons, and a total of 39 episodes between 2015 and 2018.
We do have a final release date for “Daredevil: Born Again” though, and that is March 2025. Disney’s recent upfront presentation confirmed this, along with release dates for “Ironheart” (2025) and “Agatha All Along” (September 18, 2024). “Daredevil” has been reduced to only nine episodes instead of 18, as originally planned. It’s possible they’re saving the other episodes for a second season.
We’ll update this page when a specific date in March is confirmed for the first episode.
Plot details for 'Daredevil: Born Again'
Not much has been revealed about Daredevil: Born Again’s storyline. But the title may give away some hints.
Yes, “Born Again” could simply be a reference to the fact that a canceled show has been brought back from the dead. But it also happens to share the name of a storyline from issues #227-231, and it represents a metaphor for the hero’s character development. At the start of this series, we’ll probably see him trying to leave his dark past behind as he continues his work as a lawyer.
As Den of Geek explains, Born Again is one of the comic’s darkest plotlines and, if replicated, would be heavier than anything yet committed to screen from the MCU.
The comic’s plot arc concerns Karen Page revealing Daredevil’s secret identity to Kingpin for drug money. Kingpin uses this information to break apart Matt Murdock’s life, leaving him broke, homeless and losing the will to live. After helping Karen kick the habit, Daredevil ultimately teams up with Captain America to take on the supersoldier Nuke.
As the site notes, some of the plot elements of the story arc have already been used by Netflix, but there’s still plenty of material there for the new series to use if it’s not seen as being a bit too much.
In fact, we do know that "Daredevil: Born Again" will continue the intense action. It was recently confirmed that this series will feature a one-take hallway sequence similar to the ones in the OG show.
UPDATE (June 28): Cosmic Marvel on Twitter (X) revealed that "Daredevil: Born Again" will reportedly do what Netflix did not do in their storytelling. The post stated: "The stakes are said to be “higher than ever before, and the stories they have planned are some of the best ever put out by any Marvel production.”
The same account also shed some light around Muse, who will reportedly be an "important villain" for the story. Muse in the Marvel universe is a mysterious and deranged character with superhuman strength and speed. This means he can absorb sounds and senses, making it difficult for others to track him down (including the one and only Daredevil). Hunter Doohan (Tyler from "Wednesday") has been rumored to play Muse, but that is yet to be confirmed.
'Daredevil: Born Again' announced cast
Charlie Cox (Daredevil) and Vincent D’Onofrio (Kingpin) were confirmed for the show first since they are two of the biggest characters. Therefore, we’ll probably see them face off against each other once again.
Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle / Punisher will also return in “Daredevil”, and that’s a good sign the show will still have some dark scenes. If you watched the original Netflix series, you know how brutal this vigilante can be, especially when he’s protecting someone or seeking justice. Judging by the set photos below, The Punisher continues to sport his gear and bloody appearance.
Of course, we’ll also see Matt’s best friends again. Deborah Ann Woll reprises her role as Karen Page while Elden Henson comes back as Franklin "Foggy" Nelson. It’s unknown how big their roles will be and whether they’ll be at the law firm with Matt, but hopefully, they’ll be given enough time on the small screen.

Will 'Daredevil: Born Again' be on Netflix?
Daredevil’s original run ended after three seasons in 2018, but this Netflix cancellation probably wasn’t because of dwindling audience figures. Rather, it was likely because Disney had begun trying to round up all its Marvel properties for its own streaming service: Disney Plus.
As Vincent D’Onofrio, who plays Kingpin, told the Marvel News Desk podcast in January 2022: “You know, at the same time the group #SaveDaredevil started to rise, we started to learn the reasons why that happened and so we understood what Marvel was doing because Disney Plus was coming out.”
If you want to go back and watch the original series, you'll need Disney Plus, as Daredevil and the Defenders Saga left Netflix for Disney Plus earlier this year.
Why such a long gap between the two shows? Well, Variety reported that the characters couldn’t appear in any non-Netflix series or films for two years following the cancellation.
So, "Daredevil: Born Again" will be on Disney Plus along with other upcoming Marvel shows like "Agatha All Along" and "Ironheart".
Trailers for 'Daredevil: Born Again'
No trailers for “Daredevil: Born Again” have been released yet, but we could get a small teaser within the next few months. During Disney’s upfront presentation, they did reveal a trailer behind closed doors. Although it wasn’t long, it did show Daredevil back in action, along with some familiar faces.
According to IGN, the trailer opens with Matt Murdock in his Daredevil gear. His voice in the background says: “The entire system is against you... it's often David vs. Goliath.” This is a biblical reference where a small figure goes up against a very powerful adversary. So in this case, Daredevil vs. Kingpin. There is also a quick action sequence where someone asks Murdock: “What kind of a lawyer are you?” Murdock then replies with: "A really good one.”
