Dark Cloud Hangs Over Stromboli Following Volcanic Eruption

A tourist was reported to have died after a volcano on the Italian island of Stromboli erupted on July 3, according to local media citing officials.

Italian news agency ANSA reported that a person was killed as they hiked to the summit of the volcano. The eruption also resulted in a number of fires in nearby areas, the report said.

Italy’s National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) reported that the plume of gas and ash from the eruption extended up to one mile high.
