Big Brother and Masked Singer star Davina McCall has admitted to finding dating apps "weird" as she opens up on people finding love in mid-life.

The TV presenter is returning to screens next week for the Love Island-inspired dating show My Mum, Your Dad, which sees single parents given a second chance at romance.

Davina, who is hosting, is proud of what the series stands for, explaining that finding love later on in life can often be daunting and hard to navigate.

"We're of that generation where apps are weird," she says. "We don't know how to do apps, and like, 'What do you mean you're still talking to 17 other people?'."

"I don't understand how it works, it's hard," Davina added, though she didn't clarify if she had herself used dating apps.

The TV presenter recently found love again with hairdresser Michael Douglas, confirming their relationship in 2019, a year after divorcing her husband of 17 years, Matthew Robertson.

"I just wanted to see mid-lifers represented in terms of dating, because of the second time round thing that happens in the 40s and 50s, where you’ve got children, life is complicated but more than ever, you feel you’re at a point in your life where you deserve to find love and want to spend the rest of your life with somebody," she said.

Davina believes it's this focus that gives the show its authenticity and helps set it apart from other dating shows such as Love Island.

"It’s not cynical, it is just about the love," she said. "There’s no prize money, you don’t get a big cash fund at the end. The prize is love."

My Mum, Your Dad, previously named The Romance Retreat, will see single parents cohabitate and date in a stunning country house retreat, with their children calling the romantic shots.

Episodes will run consecutively across two weeks on ITV1 and ITVX.

My Mum, Your Dad premieres on ITV1 and ITVX on September 11.
