DCC Choreographer Judy Trammell Was A Member Of The Squad In The '80s
Can't get enough of all the dances (and drama) showcased throughout Netflix's newest docuseries America's Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders? The mastermind behind the choreography is former DCC and director Kelli Finglass's right-hand woman, Judy Trammell.
The docuseries takes viewers behind the scenes of the lives of the talented DCCs from auditions, training camp, making the team, and what it's like performing on the sidelines and center field during the NFL season.
Judy, 66, works alongside Kelli and has a say in who makes the final roster and who doesn't.
She's also busy choreographing and producing the routines and dances that the cheerleaders perform on the sidelines as well as the halftime shows for all the Dallas Cowboys home games.
So who is Judy Trammell and how long has she been working with the DCC? Here's what you need to know.
Judy Trammell was a DCC from 1980 to 1984.
Before becoming a choreographer for the DCC, Judy was on the team as a group leader and show group member from 1980-1984, according to CMT Press. The site says that her 16 year dance background includes experience in jazz, tap dance, drill team, and pompom.
On Instagram, Judy posted this throwback picture of when she made the 1980 DCC training camp.
"Throwing it way back 40 years ago when It was announced I had made it in 1980 to training camp! You still have until 5:00 Friday, May 15 to audition for the 2020 team......link in bio #throwbackthursday"the caption read.
She's the squad's head choreographer.
When Judy retired from cheering, she joined the organization as assistant choreographer in 1984. A few years later in 1991, she became the squad's full-time choreographer, CMT Press.
The former cheerleader is responsible for choreographing all the dances the current DCC's perform during NFL games—including the iconic "Thunderstruck" pregame dance. She also choreographs the dances for those who make up the squads travel show group and musical variety show.
She's married to Dick Trammell and has three children.
The Texas native married her husband, Dick Trammell, in 1978. The couple have three children together—Taylor, Cassie, and Blair, per AS.
On August 19, 2023, Judy celebrated their 45th anniversary with a series of adorable pictures from over the years. "Happy 45th Anniversary!!" she wrote in the IG caption.
Did Judy's daughter make the DCC?
Judy's daughter Cassie followed in her mother's footsteps and became a DCC. She was on the squad from 2008-2013, serving as a group leader during her last two seasons, according to AS.
Just like her mom, Cassie grew up dancing and cheering. In 2004 and 2006 she won world championships with Cheer Athletics, per her alumni spotlight on the DCC website.
The legacy cheered for the University of North Texas for one year before deciding to audition for the DCC at 19. Being a member of the squad was always a goal of hers, and despite their close relationship, the two kept things strictly professional.
In 2013, Cassie posted an adorable throwback IG picture of her next to a wooden cut out of her mom in her iconic DCC uniform. "#tbt," the caption read.
