DC's Blue Beetle getting unexpected spin-off
DC's Blue Beetle movie is getting an unexpected spin-off in the form of an animated series, with some of the people involved set to return.
Deadline reports that Warner Bros Animation and DC Studios are looking to continue the story of college graduate Jaime Reyes and his super-powered alter-ego. Director Ángel Manuel Soto and screenwriter Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer are back on board as executive producers, while fellow execs John Rickard and Galen Vaisman are involved as well.
No cast members, such as Xolo Maridueña, have been signed up yet, although multiple actors have been approached and have responded positively.

The show is set to tell its own story rather than re-tell the plot of the film, and there is apparently hope that it can lead to further big screen adventures down the line.
The Blue Beetle film was part of the DC Extended Universe, which is being replaced by the new DC Universe continuity. It's not publicly known how it will work, but Gunn has always stated that the character will be part of his plans going forward.
"Xolo Maridueña will continue playing Blue Beetle in the DCU, as Viola Davis will Amanda Waller, and John Cena will Peacemaker," he said.

"It's a very human drive to want to understand everything all the time, but I think it's okay to be confused on what's happening in the DCU since no one has seen anything from the DCU yet.
"And, yes, some actors will be playing characters they've played in other stories and some plot points might be consistent with plot points from the dozens of films, shows and animated projects that have come from DC in the past. But nothing is canon until [Creature Commandos and Superman: Legacy]."
