Deadly California Storm Damages Capitola Wharf

A section of Capitola Wharf was destroyed after a storm brought flooding and dangerous surf conditions to parts of California’s Central Coast on Thursday, January 5.

This drone footage from photographer @terrywayphoto shows waves crashing against the damaged wharf.

Santa Cruz County officials said the storm has caused “significant damage” throughout the county and along the coast, including heavy damage to piers in Capitola and Seacliff, and advised residents to avoid the coast due to dangerous surf.

Several people have been killed by powerful storms that have gripped the state since December 31, according to reports.

The National Weather Service said more rain and flooding was expected on Saturday. Credit: @terrywayphoto via Storyful
