Dene National Assembly moved from Fort Good Hope, N.W.T., to Dettah

The 54th Dene National Assembly will now take place in Dettah, N.W.T., later this month as a wildfire continues to threaten Fort Good Hope, where it was originally supposed to be held.

The assembly will now take place from July 23 to 25 at the Chief Drygeese Centre in Dettah.

In a news release, the Dene Nation wrote that the decision was made "due to the impacts of the recent wildfires in the region."

The Dene Nation previously said the assembly — and election for Dene National chief — would still go ahead in Fort Good Hope.

The election will take place on July 24, in person and online.

Six people are running for chief.
