Llewellyn plays 19-year-old Jack in the show, a self-described "closeted mummy's boy" who successfully scores a scholarship to a local university where he meets 25-year-old Danny (Jon Pointing).

The two boys end up becoming best friends despite coming from very different ends of the 'spectrum of masculinity.

Critics have praised Big Boys for tackling difficult subjects with a light touch and comedic relief, commending Llewellyn's performance in the show.

Here's a round-up of what reviewers have been saying:

The Guardian

"It is warm and funny, but with a melancholic undertow that fades in and out as the episode -- and the series -- goes on, but never disappears entirely."

The Independent

"Big Boys has also found a real star in Llewellyn, who shone as perpetual insult magnet James on Derry Girls... Here he retains a fish-out-of-water sweetness, but finds within it a softer register and darker melancholy."

The Mail on Sunday

"I galloped through all six episodes in a single sitting and could easily have done more.... This is deliciously funny yet also so warm, tender and affecting. I welled up on several occasions."

The Daily Telegraph

"There are plenty of laughs, but at its heart this is the story of a friendship that you dearly hope will work out."

The Times

"It’s one of the most funny, tender, profound sad-happy comedies I’ve seen this year and is worth anyone’s time."

Sydney Morning Herald

"The show is funny, but it never mocks, and it shows that listening to a friend is a virtue that even young men are capable of."

Big Boys season 1 is available now on Netflix. Season 2 is also available to stream on Channel 4.
