Director J.M. Stelly Launches Genre-Focused Label Anatomica Films

EXCLUSIVE: Writer-director and producer J.M. Stelly has launched Anatomica Films, a genre-focused production house of of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Stelly, who is also an actor, says the indie company will specialize in horror, thriller and arthouse films, and will provide “comprehensive distribution services.” It will act as a sister company to Anatomica Productions, Stelly’s existing production biz.

“I am thrilled to embark on this new journey with Anatomica Films,” said Stelly. “Our goal is to create films that not only entertain but also provoke thought and push the boundaries of traditional storytelling in the horror, thriller, and arthouse genres.”

The distribution element will include “innovative strategies to maximize exposure across various platforms, including theatrical releases, streaming services and home entertainment.”

“Our approach to distribution is designed to ensure that our films have the greatest possible impact,” added Stelly. “By managing both production and distribution, we can maintain the artistic integrity of our projects while reaching a global audience.”

Anatomica launches with a slate of three titles. Abacus, starring Jared Bankens (Twisted Metal, Venom), Keegan Macy (They Are Watching) and Antonio Saez, is slated to release by September through a limited theatrical release and on Blu-Ray and VOD by November.

Shot in black and white, the dark thriller is in the vein of films such as Saw and The Unknown. The plot follows three men trapped in a game of life or death where the consequences of their actions not only affect them but the ones they love the most.

Call of the Void stars Bankens and Kirsten Bazet, and is slated for a limited theatrical release by October and a VOD and Blu-Ray launch by the end of the year. The film is billed as “a unique arthouse experience about a man known only as The Painter and his journey into the darkness of his past and future self through recorded notes.”

They Are Watching releases in October on Blu-Ray and will star Macy, Stelly and Bankens, and is already available to stream through Terror Films. The horror is pic uses a found footage device.
