It director unveils first look at prequel Welcome to Derry
It director Andy Muschietti has unveiled a first look at prequel series Welcome to Derry.
The upcoming television series will serve as an origin story for the iconic Pennywise the Clown, being set in the titular town during the 1960s.
Muschietti, who directed both parts in the recent adaptation of Stephen King’s classic novel, will direct the first episode of the series while serving as an executive producer, and shared an image of the set on his Instagram account.

“Welcome to Derry” read the caption to the image, which showed the door for the Chief of Police Clint Bowers, who presumably is the father of Henry Bowers from the book and film.
Whilst the series will depict the beginnings of the villainous clown, it was revealed that Bill Skarsgård would not be reprising his role from the films. The cast thus far includes Taylour Paige (Ma Rainey's Black Bottom), Jovan Adepo (Stephen King's The Stand), James Remar (Gotham), and Chris Chalk (Perry Mason), with the release set for 2024.
Upon the announcement of the show last month, King said: “I'm excited that the story of Derry, Maine's most haunted city, is continuing, and I'm glad Andy Muschietti is going to be overseeing the frightening festivities, along with a brain trust including his talented sister, Barbara. Red balloons all around!”

Muschietti, who has also directed Worlds of DC film The Flash, issued a statement with sister Bárbara about the project, saying: “As teenagers, we took turns reading chapters of Stephen King's It until the thick paperback fell to pieces.
“It is an epic story that contains multitudes, far beyond what we could explore in our It movies. We can't wait to share the depths of Steve's novel, in all its heart, humour, humanity, and horror,” they added.
Welcome to Derry will air in 2024.
