Discovery Perlas’ Melissa Jacob and Ish Tiu check in with SLAM PH
SLAM caught up with Melissa Jacob and Ish Tiu of Discovery Perlas while they were at the Titan x LGR Studio getting their creativity on for their new jerseys.
SLAM: Introduce yourselves to the SLAM readers please.
MJ: I’m Melissa Jacob, guard/forward born in Cali, went to University of California, Irvine.
IT: Ish Tiu, I’m from Ateneo, I play forward.
SLAM: Take us thru the process of how Discovery Perlas came about.
MJ: Well it was formed again in 2007 after the team disbanded in 2005.
SLAM: What are the achievements the team is most proud of?
MJ: We had the Bronze in Level 2 in the 2009 Sea Games.
IT: Then we had the 2010 Gold in the Seaba plus the 2011 Silver in the Sea Games.
SLAM: What have been the most important factors for you guys to get those W’s these coming tourneys?
MJ/IT: The core has been pretty much intact but we still need to improve on chemistry. Also support from the fans, especially now since Volleyball is also getting bigger and now with social media.
SLAM: What other goals do you have in the future?
IT: Definitely a Gold medal in the Sea Games (level 1)
MJ: Also to be good role models and pave the way for the younger generation. We also hold clinics thru our grassroots programs in Pampanga, Naga and Subic to name a few.
SLAM: What do you think of your new jersey designs?
MJ/IT: Can’t wait to wear them!
They are set to compete on Oct 27-Nov 3 for the FIBA Asia then the Sea Games happen on Dec 11-22.
