Disney CEO Bob Iger has revealed he is “personally committed” to ending the strikes in Hollywood.

On May 2, the Writers Guild of America (WGA) went on strike over an ongoing dispute with the Alliance of Motion Pictures and Television Producers (AMPTP), referencing growing concerns in the streaming era, as well as pay and conditions, amongst other issues.

This was followed on July 13 by a strike from members of SAG-AFTRA, which covers actors, marking the first time that both actors and writers have been on strike simultaneously since 1960.

The action has resulted in numerous delays to major productions and less publicity for released projects, with the effects set to rumble on through to next year.

Iger, who started his second term as CEO of Disney last year, spoke to his staff as part of an earnings call, and revealed his desire for the action to be settled between both parties.

“It is my fervent hope that we quickly find solutions to the issues that have kept us apart these past few months,” he said (via Deadline). “And I am personally committed to working to achieve this result.

“Nothing is more important to this company than its relationships with the creative community – that includes actors, writers, animators, directors and producers. I have deep respect and appreciation for all those who are vital to the extraordinary creative engine that drives this company and our industry,” he added.

Whilst Iger is busy overseeing projects at Disney, there is currently no news on a sequel to Encanto – at least according to lead actress Stephanie Beatriz.

“I know fans of the film are really, really eager to know if it’s going to get a sequel,” she said. “I would love to do that. I think there’s a ton of story to be told and there’s so many people that would love to see that, but I haven’t heard jack shit.

“I know [directors] Jared [Bush] and Bryon [Howard] are working on the second Zootopia right now. But I would love to work with them again. That team on that film was so incredible to work with.”
