Disney+ to launch cheaper ad subscription plan for UK customers

Disney+ will launch a new ad-supported subscription plan for UK customers on November 1.

The streaming service previously launched a subscription package with ads in the US last December, and is now introducing the same plan to new and existing subscribers in the UK and Europe.

The new Standard with Ads plan will cost £4.99 monthly, and have nearly all the same features as the current Standard package (£7.99 a month/£79.90 a year) with the addition of ads and exception of downloads.

Current Disney+ customers will be automatically moved to the Premium subscription package (£10.99 a month/£109.90 a year) in November when the new plan becomes available, unless users actively switch to another plan.

"The introduction of the ad-supported plan marks the next evolution for Disney+ in the UK, as we provide greater choice for our customers and our world-class advertising partners alike," says Jan Koeppen, President of The Walt Disney Company EMEA.

"Disney+ continues to set itself apart in today's streaming landscape, offering unrivalled value, genre-defining TV series and blockbuster movies set within a simple and seamless experience."

The new Standard with Ads package is being rolled out across the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, Norway, Sweden and Denmark.

Disney+ is currently the home of hundreds of TV shows and movies from the likes of Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and National Geographic.

Shows currently striking a chord with audiences include Marvel's Secret Invasion, Only Murders in the Building season three and The Bear season 2 (an FX original).

Guardians of the Galaxy 3 arrived on the streaming service last week (August 2), with The Little Mermaid Live Action movie having a Disney+ release date of September 6.

Disney+'s Standard with Ads package will be available in the UK from November 1.
