Disneyland’s Beloved Haunted Mansion Ride Temporarily Closes in Preparation for Major Renovations

Disneyland Resort has temporarily shut down its fan-favorite Haunted Mansion ride ahead of a major update.
“Haunted Mansion is currently closed for refurbishment,” the park wrote on their official website. “Please check back here for updates.”
In August 2023, Disney Parks Blog announced that the Anaheim, Calif. resort’s iconic attraction would close in January 2024 in order to “expand on the story and lore of the Haunted Mansion” ride located in New Orleans Square.

The Disneyland Resort sign taken in July 2023.At the time, the blog shared a glimpse of what park goers can expect to see in the updated space, including “an expanded outdoor queue to immerse guests in enhanced theming” and a new gift shop for park goers to take a piece of the ride home with them.
The updated sites will be inspired by some familiar faces from the ride, such as Master Gracey, Madame Leota and the one-eyed cat. Guests can also experience a brand new greenhouse located in one of the gardens where they can watch Haunted Mansion groundskeepers at work.
As for the new retail space, the blog notes that “this carriage house of the mansion, belonging to Leota, will be a standalone shop.”
The park will also be making renovations to the adjacent Tiana’s Palace and they plan to use the construction process as an “opportunity to help improve the accessibility of these areas,” according to the blog.
They confirmed that a new elevator exit at Haunted Mansion will be installed during the refurbishment.
A representative for Disneyland did not immediately reply to PEOPLE’s request for comment on when construction will likely conclude.
