The BBC has confirmed Doctor Who will release spin-off companion books for the show's 60th anniversary specials.

Showrunner Russell T Davies has lined up David Tennant and Catherine Tate for a reunion in celebratory episodes to air later this year, leading into Ncuti Gatwa taking over the TARDIS at Christmas.

Fans can expect three special episodes this year — and they will be accompanied by novelisations in Doctor Who's classic Target book range in 2024.

All three of the television scripts have been written by Russell T Davies, but Gary Russell has penned The Star Beast novelisation, while Wild Blue Yonder comes from Mark Morris and The Giggle is by James Goss.

The books are currently scheduled to be released on January 11, 2024 for £9.99, and are available to pre-order from the links above right now.

Davies has been drip-feeding information about these three specials throughout the year, but we do know that Neil Patrick Harris will be playing a villain in at least one episode.

Another newcomer is Heartstopper's Yasmin Finney as a character mysteriously named Rose, while the late Bernard Cribbins also filmed return scenes as Donna Noble's grandpa Wilfred Mott before his death.

The three nostalgic episodes with Tennant and Tate will set the stage for Sex Education's Ncuti Gatwa as the new Doctor, alongside ex-Coronation Street star Millie Gibson as companion Ruby Sunday.

Composer Murray Gold, who wrote anthemic music for the show between 2005 and 2017, will be returning to work alongside Russell T Davies and his production team as well.

Doctor Who returns later in 2023 on BBC One in the UK and Disney+ elsewhere. Meanwhile, in the US, the show airs on BBC America, with series 1-12 available on Max.
