Doctor Who has shared a first proper look at the second of its 60th anniversary specials.

The BBC sci-fi returned last weekend for the first of three episodes, with David Tennant back as the Doctor alongside Catherine Tate's Donna Noble.

Fans were given a short trailer for the next episode, 'Wild Blue Yonder', and now we have a clearer look in a series of stills from the BBC ahead of its premiere this weekend (December 2).

In the pictures, we see the Doctor and Donna exploring an abandoned spaceship, bathed in neon green and blue lighting.

As well as returns for the two stars, the specials have also introduced new character Rose Noble (played by Yasmin Finney), Donna's daughter.

The first episode featured a scene in which the character is deadnamed by some bullies – an act in which someone refers to a trans person by their name before they began transitioning.

Show boss Russell T Davies recently explained the inclusion of the scene, saying how he wanted to highlight the cruel reality many trans people face, alongside the first name being a nod to the Doctor.

In other Doctor Who news, the show has confirmed that this year's festive special, the first full episode featuring Ncuti Gatwa's Fifteenth Doctor, will air on Christmas Day on BBC One.

The episode is titled 'The Church on Ruby Road', suggesting it will reveal more about the Doctor's new companion Ruby Sunday (Millie Gibson).

Doctor Who returns for three 60th anniversary specials, beginning with 'The Star Beast' on November 25. The show airs on BBC One in the UK and Disney+ elsewhere.

Classic episodes of Doctor Who are now made available via BBC iPlayer in the UK as well.
