Doctor Who spoilers follow.

Sacha Dhawan has teased returning to Doctor Who someday to settle "unfinished business" for The Master.

The actor, who is currently starring in BBC crime drama Wolf, played The Doctor's arch-nemesis in Jodie Whittaker's era of the sci-fi show – and last appeared as part of her Doctor's send-off.

The Master seemingly met his ultimate end in that episode, but the villain is never truly gone for very long, so a return in producer Russell T Davies' new era of the show isn't out of the question.

When he spoke with Digital Spy recently about Wolf, Dhawan confirmed he was taking a break from The Master for the time being.

"I felt like I kind of finished my era with [former producer] Chris Chibnall," he told us. "But to be honest, when I heard that Russell was coming back – I know Russell a little bit socially, but I've never worked with him.

"And I think he's fantastic. I think, you know, what he's going to do is going to be amazing. I keep seeing these announcements. I'm seeing stills of Ncuti on set in Cardiff, and it brings back so many memories. So I don't know."

Dhawan added that although he's not currently part of the Ncuti Gatwa era, he isn't ruling out his Master returning at some point.

"I think having a bit of a break from it, and doing other stuff, is fantastic," he said. "But I think if I ever got the call, or Russell messaged me, I'd be there, because it's such a great character as well.

"There are so many places he can go, and characters he can be. So there's definitely some unfinished business there."

Davies has already confirmed major returning characters, starting later this year with David Tennant and Catherine Tate reuniting for a trio of Doctor Who 60th anniversary episodes.

In the 2024 series, Bonnie Langford will reprise her role as the Sixth and Seventh Doctor's companion Melanie Bush and Jemma Redgrave returns as UNIT boss Kate Stewart.

Doctor Who returns later in 2023 on BBC One in the UK and Disney+ elsewhere. Meanwhile, in the US, the show airs on BBC America, with series 1-12 available on Max.
