Today's (February 8) episode of the BBC soap Doctors was pulled from BBC One's schedule following the Turkey and Syria earthquake.

The news was confirmed via the show's Twitter account, with a message reading: "In light of news in Turkey and Syria, today’s billed episode of Doctors will be replaced with Animal Park Heroes."

The episode was due to show an explosion during a medical conference, with a number of fan favourite characters caught up in the devastation.

The official synopsis read: "There are multiple casualties when an explosion rips through a medical conference with no known cause and some of the Mill staff are caught up in the carnage."

The start of the episode shows Daniel Granger (Matthew Chambers), Zara Carmichael (Elisabeth Dermot Walsh), Emma Reid (Dido Miles), and Al Haskey (Ian Midlane) trapped by rubble, before the events that led to the explosion are told through a flashback.

The episode was set to be the debut of Coronation Street star Wendi Peters in the role of Dr Nina Bulsara.

It has not yet been confirmed when the episode will now air, though the decision to reschedule came following two earthquakes that occurred on Monday, February 6.

The death toll for the 7.8 magnitude earthquake and multiple aftershocks has now passed 11,000 according to Sky News, as search teams from more than 24 countries have joined tens of thousands of local emergency workers to search for survivors in the rubble.
