Dominique Fishback is at peace with the stories she told on Swarm.

The 32-year-old actress told PEOPLE at Monday's 33rd annual Gotham Awards that the project was "always" intended to be a limited series. "No season 2," she confirmed.

"But I'm OK with that," said Fishback, whose performance as Dre in the Prime Video show earned her an outstanding performance in a new TV series nomination at the annual awards ceremony. "I'm OK with that because I feel like the shock factor of the first season really got people — and sometimes when you try to go back in there, I don't want it to be shock for shock value."

She added, "You want it to really to end on a high."

Directed by Donald Glover, Swarm followed Dre, a Houston-based fan whose obsession with a Beyoncé-esque pop star led her down a dark and dangerous spiral.

The show gained critical acclaim for its writing and performances from its star-studded cast, including Chloe Bailey, Paris Jackson, Damson Idris and Billie Eilish in her acting debut. However, what captivated fans most was the claim that it was inspired by actual events.

Though the series maintained that it was still "a work of fiction," the storyline featured many parallels to "fandom" culture, particularly Beyoncé and her Beyhive fanbase. (Despite the references, the singer had no involvement in the series.)

"Honestly, I really gave everything that I had to this role, to this show," Fishback told PEOPLE. "On days where most of the time somebody would get a break, I was there all the time and I really put everything that I had into it. Towards the middle of the shoot, it kept going like a moving train. It didn't stop."

Despite a "jam-packed" agenda, Fishback said she'd "do it again regardless of the awards."

That said, she said candidly of her nod: "I cannot lie, this is amazing."
