Don Lemon's new memoir I Once Was Lost: My Search for God in America is set to release in the fall and will explore his loss of faith and what it took to find it again. The book is a follow-up to his previous bestseller, This is the Fire: What I Say to My Friends about Racism.

I Once Was Lost draws on Don’s rich personal history — from his youth in the Bible belt of the Deep South, to the crisis of faith he felt as a young man and the massive loss and grief he’s experienced in recent years,” according to a press release from Little, Brown and Company.

The book incorporates a mix of his own personal experiences and reporting to “weave a beautiful, soulful narrative about losing and ultimately regaining our sense of direction and purpose.”

I Once Was Lost is set to come out over a year after Lemon, 57, was ousted from CNN in April 2023 after working at the network for 17 years. Lemon confirmed his firing on X (formerly known as Twitter) and wrote that he was “informed this morning by my agent [that] I have been terminated by CNN. I am stunned."

Shortly after Lemon’s statement CNN Communications posted on X that "Don Lemon's statement about this morning's events is inaccurate" and clarified that "he was offered an opportunity to meet with management but instead released a statement on Twitter."

After Lemon was let go from the network, he launched his own show The Don Lemon Show on March 11, in which he interviewed guests like Elon Musk, The View’s Sunny Hostin, Senator Cory Booker, and more.

Lemon was even invited to be interviewed by his former CNN colleague Erin Burnett to speak about his interview with Musk. The Don Lemon Show host told PEOPLE in a March 17 interview that it was “very emotional” for him to step back into the CNN Studios after the way he left it.

“There were so many people in that building last night who came into the studio, left their desks, left the control room, just to come say hello,” Lemon recalled. “And to thank me for what I have done, just to say, ‘I'm sorry this happened to you. We miss you. And that meant a lot.’ ”

I Once Was Lost: My Search for God in America will be released on September 10 and is available for preorder wherever books are sold.
