Donald Glover has spoken with Brad Pitt about the new Mr. and Mrs. Smith series!

At the premiere of Glover's new Prime Video series — a remake of Pitt and ex-wife Angelina Jolie's 2005 action-comedy of the same name — on Wednesday, Glover told Entertainment Tonight that he "reached out to Brad" some time after he first took on the project in 2021.

"Brad was like, you know, he just Brad Pitted his way out of it," Glover, 40, told the outlet. "I was like, 'I just need some tips,' and he just charmed his way out of it. He was like, 'Oh, you'll do great, kid.' That kind of thing."

"He was very, very sweet and nice and that was very helpful," the actor added. "I just wanted to get a good understanding ... It was great. He gave me good advice."

Mr. and Mrs. Smith was the seventh highest-grossing movie of the year at the global box office in 2005. Pitt, 60, and Jolie, 48, first met when they filmed the movie, ultimately leading to a relationship between the two stars that lasted until their 2016 divorce.

The Mr. and Mrs. Smith movie followed Pitt and Jolie as a married couple who discover they "are both coolly lethal, highly paid assassins working for rival organizations," per an official 20th Century Studios description of the movie.

Prime Video's new series puts a fresh spin on the concept: Glover costars with Maya Erskine as two spies working for the same agency who are assigned the John and Jane Smith identities — and a marriage — as their cover.

“You look at Angelina Jolie in the film and she’s a total goddess, and I was thinking: ‘Well, I can’t be her,' " Erskine, 36, recently told The Guardian of stepping into a role made famous by Jolie. "I knew I was never going to push myself to get Marvel ripped and turn myself into this f------ babe.”

“These were not helpful thoughts, so I really had to accept that I was going to be a real woman, I’m not going to be perfect and that’s OK," she added. "I decided it would still be sexy, but in a different way."

At Wednesday's premiere, Erskine joked to PEOPLE that she feels "terrified" to have Mr. and Mrs. Smith release so soon.

"I imagine that the sexiness of it is coming from the intimacy between these two people and that it feels real," she said of stepping into Jolie's former role. "It's not like super perfect and glossy and so I'm excited to see how that comes out."

All eight episodes of Mr. & Mrs. Smith premiere Friday on Prime Video.
