Don't skip moisturising despite our humid climate: Beauty blogger Faith Tan
Each week, Yahoo Lifestyle Singapore profiles a beauty blogger that is based in Singapore. Get to know their beauty secrets and find out how you can improve your daily skincare and make-up regime. This week, we feature Faith Tan, who runs the blog Faith Vanity Table.
How did you start becoming a blogger?
I started my blog like how most bloggers did – out of passion and an interest for a certain niche, which in my case is beauty and travel. My make-up and skincare stash was growing out of proportion, and one day my husband came home with a DSLR camera. I started taking photos of my beauty products for fun, and soon I found myself writing beauty reviews online on websites and social media platforms. My friends gave me the idea of sharing my in-depth thoughts on my own online space, so that’s how my blog was born.
Can you describe what a typical day is like for you?
I start my day by first feeding my pet bunny, then myself. The hustle officially kicks in after a cup of freshly brewed coffee. I go for work and meetings in the day, and attend media events in the evenings. When there are no media events, I go for my KPopX Fitness or Zumba classes or just a short run on the treadmill at the gym. After a nice workout and dinner, then I start working on my blog or video editing. On non-working days, I schedule my beauty appointments for which I review beauty services on my blog and social media platforms.
What’s your morning beauty regime?
Cleanse, tone, apply serum, then moisturiser and eye cream, followed by sunblock or base make-up with SPF.
What’s your night-time beauty regime?
Make-up removal using double cleansing (use make-up remover, then facial cleanser), tone, use sheet mask, moisturiser, eye serum and eye cream.
What are your current favourite beauty products? Why?
SU:M37 Miracle Rose Cleansing Stick! Have you seen the product? Wow, it is a piece of art in itself with all the real dried rose petals! The cleansing stick effectively cleanses away all the grease and grime without drying out my skin, and leaves my skin soft with a glow every single time! I also adore Hourglass highlighters because they are really the best highlighting powders around.
What is the most common beauty mistake you’ve heard or seen Singaporeans making? How would you wish to correct it?
Skipping either moisturiser or serum. I understand our hot and humid Singapore climate makes us all sweaty and our face feels sticky and oily, but it is pertinent to understand both serum and moisturiser serve different functions and our skin needs BOTH. Use at least one serum and layer with a light moisturiser. Hydrating serums are usually not sticky and easy to wear even under our insane weather!
Is there a beauty secret that you swear by?
Skincare secret: I always wait 30 minutes after masking before I rinse off residual product on my face with cold water. (I know sometimes we are told not to rinse off the mask, but you can’t be sure how your mask reacts with your skincare that you’re layering later on.) 30 minutes is enough for a product to absorb completely; any residue only clogs your pores especially if you are not in an air-conditioned room.
Make-up secret: Set make-up with hydrating mist spray immediately after applying it. Don’t use make-up fixing sprays as they tend to contain more silicones. Use hydrating facial mists instead!
How big is your beauty collection now?
I built a vanity room for it last year. Yes, an entire room just for make-up and skincare and it is running out of space again after one year! Hahaha!
