Dr. Phil Wants to 'Offer a Path Back to a United America' with New Book “We’ve Got Issues ”(Exclusive)

The longtime television host, whose talk show ended in May after 21 seasons, is set to publish his newest book in February

Dr. Phil McGraw's tough-love is not going anywhere.

On Tuesday, Threshold Editions announced that McGraw's book, WE’VE GOT ISSUES: How You Can Stand Strong for America’s Soul and Sanity will be published on February 27, 2024.

In his newest book the television personality, 73 — who is known for his no-nonsense point of view — utilizes his decades of psychological experience to address social issues affecting America.

Providing strategies and guidance to “restore our country to societal health, sanity and power,” McGraw says he hopes the book will help the U.S. move from “cancel culture to counsel culture, from fear to acceptance and from victimhood to a meritocracy.”

Along with the book — published by Threshold Editions — Simon & Schuster Audio will publish the audiobook edition, narrated by the author himself.

“I love this country – flaws, fallacies, and all – and I don’t believe we have to tear it down from within to make it better,” McGraw says. “I want to offer a path back to a united America in which we all take pride. Reclaiming our shared values and rejecting nonsense is not just a national imperative but a personal responsibility.”

In May, the New York Times bestselling author said goodbye to his daytime show Dr. Phil after 21 seasons.

"I have been blessed with over 25 wonderful years in daytime television," McGraw said in a statement sent to PEOPLE in January. "With this show, we have helped thousands of guests and millions of viewers through everything from addiction and marriage to mental wellness and raising children. This has been an incredible chapter of my life and career, but while I'm moving on from daytime, there is so much more I wish to do."

He added, "I am compelled to engage with a broader audience because I have grave concerns for the American family, and I am determined to help restore a clarity of purpose as well as our core values."

Last month, McGraw announced that he is launching his own broadcast cable television network, Merit Street Media, debuting on February 26, 2024, a day before his book release. The news and entertainment network will be anchored by Dr. Phil Primetime, airing nightly at 8 pm EST.

In a statement, the host said of the new show, “As always, the audience will dictate our content because they are our content, and I want my viewer’s help in building Merit Street. I continue my pledge to help individuals, couples, and families have the tough conversations, face the hard realities, and get real answers for the most positive and effective outcome.”
