The long wait is over, Arisen! Capcom has finally announced that the long-awaited sequel to their smash-hit action RPG, Dragon's Dogma 2, will be released on 22 March 2024 on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

Capcom aired a 12-minute showcase of Dragon's Dogma 2 that gave players a glimpse into the game's rich world and what challenges await players there.

In Dragon's Dogma 2, players will take on the role of the Arisen, a figure destined to face the game's titular dragon who has taken their heart and prevent a coming apocalypse. They will also be joined in their quest by companions known as Pawns, human-like beings who assist the player in both combat and exploration.

While Dragon's Dogma 2 is set in a similar world to the 2012 original, the adventure in the long-awaited sequel will be taking place in a parallel universe.

The Arisen's adventures will take them to places like the human kingdom of Vermund, where they will be drawn to a power struggle involving a fake Arisen. There's also the beastren nation of Batthal, which treats Pawns as the source of misfortune.

What else is familiar for fans of the original Dragon's Dogma?

Aside from the setting, there will be plenty of things familiar in Dragon's Dogma 2 for fans of the original.

The sequel features the same eight vocations, or character classes, as the original, namely Fighter, Archer, Thief, Mage, Warrior, Sorcerer, Magick Archer, and Mystic Spearhand. There is also the all-new Trickster vocation, which lets players conjure illusions to bewilder enemies and greatly empower their Pawns.

The Fighter, Archer, Thief, Mage, Warrior, and Sorcerer vocations are available to both the Arisen and their Pawns. Meanwhile, the Magick Archer, Mystic Spearhand, and Trickster vocations are exclusive to the Arisen.

There's plenty of new monsters to fight too such as the Talos, a metallic giant that emerges from the sea. Of course, there are also the classic RPG enemies like Slimes, Goblins, Golems, and the Undead. Strong foes like the Dullahan and Drake will also serve to challenge the mettle of the Arisen.

Players can also freely create and customise the appearance of the Arisen and the main Pawn.

The Dragon's Dogma 2 development team notably used photogrammetry technology to increase the photorealism of characters while adding a way to simplify the process of creating them. In the character creation menu, players can even select images that resemble the look they have in mind for an easy way to create their ideal character.
