Drew Barrymore had to beg to do memorable “SNL” digital short with Maya Rudolph
"Body Fuzion" almost didn't make it to air, according to the six-time host.
Drew Barrymore had to beg to make one of her most memorable shorts on Saturday Night Live.
"Body Fuzion," the 2007 short that parodied '80s workout videos produced by Andy Samberg and his Lonely Island crew Jorma Taccone and Akiva Schaffer, almost didn't make it to air, according to Barrymore. The six-time host shared the tidbit with SNL alum Maya Rudolph, who dropped by Monday's episode of her eponymous talk show to promote season 2 of her Apple TV+ sitcom Loot.
"I remember that week that Akiva, Jorma, and Andy were like, 'You know what? We aren't going to do a short this week,'" Barrymore recalled after sharing a clip of the short on the show. "And I was like, no no no no."
Rudolph said, "Those were early days before they had to do one every single week because they were so good."
"I kept begging," Barrymore shared. "I would go into their office every single day and I was like, I know it's me again—"

"Beg!" Barrymore said.
"Thank God you did," Rudolph said. "We got 'Body Fuzion'!"
The digital short, which aired when Barrymore hosted in February 2007, featured Barrymore with Rudolph, Kristen Wiig, and Amy Poehler as they presented a series of low-impact workouts, with pencils and even air used as weights for the absurd muscle portion. Just don't ask Rudolph why she pronounced "pencils" that way.
"I don't know!" she told Barrymore of the creative decision. "I just like doing stuff like that."
The 2007 episode inducted Barrymore, who became the youngest host at age 7 when she made her hosting debut in November 1982, into the elite Five-Timers Club. She returned for the sixth time in October 2009. Rudolph was a staple on the show between 2000 and 2007.
