EastEnders airs another cufflinks clue ahead of Christmas whodunit

EastEnders spoilers follow.

EastEnders has aired another mysterious hint about the cufflinks ahead of next week's Christmas Day mystery death.

Viewers will remember in this past February's flashforward scene that the dead man in the Queen Vic is actually wearing a pair of gold cuffs when he's discovered by The Six — Denise Fox, Kathy Cotton, Linda Carter, Sharon Watts, Stacey Slater and Suki Kaur Panesar.

A pair of cufflinks have been passed around the Square at various points throughout the year to make the festive death all the more intriguing — and we know there are now seven official candidates who could die next week.

In Monday's (December 18) episode, Billy Mitchell was brought into the orbit of the mystery story as he struggled with his grief over losing granddaughter Lola Pearce-Brown to cancer.

"I could do without [Christmas] this year. Roll on January," he admitted to Honey Mitchell.

Honey was on the rounds monitoring the market stalls when she caught Alfie Moon trying to hock cuffs without a permit.

Alfie then opened up his briefcase to reveal several rows of cufflinks that look similar to the ones from the Christmas flashforward mystery.

Honey promised she'd turn a blind eye to Alfie's dodgy dealings so long as he'd agreed to split the proceeds with Billy. Later, Alfie and Billy were shown selling lots of the cuffs.

"Come Christmas day, every man in Walford is going to be wearing a pair of them," Alfie announced.

The only person who wasn't impressed was Phil Mitchell, since he claimed he already had a pair just like Alfie's in his dresser drawer.

This new twist adds an intriguing wrinkle to the mystery surrounding the Christmas cuffs, since viewers had previously seen them in the hands of Nish Panesar, Rocky Cotton and Jack Branning throughout the year.

But will it be a different set of cuffs entirely on the dead man at Christmas?

EastEnders airs on Mondays - Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6am ahead of their TV broadcast.
