EastEnders has aired harrowing scenes for Linda Carter as Dean Wicks blackmailed her into falsely clearing him of sexual assault.

Previous episodes saw Dean fall down the stairs in The Vic after a heated confrontation with George Knight. Dean later threatened to report George to the police unless Linda made a false statement saying that he didn't rape her.

Viewers will remember that Dean did rape Linda several years ago, with Dean later being tried and acquitted in court over a separate offence against Roxy Mitchell.

In tonight's (Wednesday 22) episode, Linda was under pressure as the threat of a prison sentence hung over George should Dean go ahead with pressing charges.

Unsure over what to do, she confided in her mum about Dean's ultimatum. Linda was left horrified after Elaine hinted that she make the false confession to Dean in order to save her family.

"He too everything from me... He broke me," Linda confided to Elaine, explaining how Dean's actions impacted her life and that her words could leave him free to potentially assault other women.

Later on, Elaine revealed the threat to George, who insisted he would rather go to prison than allow Dean to threaten the family. He and Linda later visited Dean at the hospital, with the pair reiterating that Linda won't lie to clear George's name.

However, after seeing Gina and Anna's concern for their dad's future saw Linda forced into a corner with the Pub landlady forced into making a heartbreaking decision.

Approaching Dean in Beale's Eels, Linda agreed to make the false confession that Dean didn't rape her in order to save George — unaware that her words were being recorded.

Will Dean use Linda's false confession against her?
